Work out how many hours you work a year

“How many hours do I work a year?” has three honest answers. Scheduled hours are your weekly hours times the weeks in the year — the familiar 2,080 for a 40-hour week. Paid hours drop only the unpaid time off. Hours actually worked also drop paid vacation and paid holidays, because those days are paid but not worked. This calculator shows all three side by side, so a figure for a salary-to-hourly comparison, a staffing plan, or a timesheet target uses the number that actually fits the question.

How to use the Annual Work Hours Calculator

  1. Choose whether to enter hours per day or hours per week, and type your hours.
  2. Enter the days you work each week — this also turns days off into hours — and the weeks per year, including paid weeks off.
  3. Optionally enter paid time off, paid holidays, and unpaid time off, in days.
  4. Read the scheduled, paid, and worked hours, with every step of the working shown.

The formula

Scheduled hours = hours per week × weeks per year

Hours per day = hours per week ÷ days per week

Paid hours = scheduled − unpaid days × hours per day

Hours worked = paid − (paid time off + paid holidays) × hours per day

40 × 52 = 2,080 is the standard full-time year, and it already includes paid holidays and vacation. A compressed week of four 10-hour days comes to the same 2,080. Working fewer weeks — 50 instead of 52 — is one way to leave out unpaid weeks; entering them as unpaid days gives the same paid total while keeping the scheduled year intact.

Calculated on your device

  • The calculation runs in your browser as you type; nothing is sent to a server.
  • Your hours, days off, and results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored.
  • The calculator area is masked from session-recording analytics, so what you enter isn’t captured in recordings.

Limitations

  • It assumes every scheduled week has the same hours. For rotating or irregular schedules, the Rotating Shift Hours and 4-On-4-Off calculators count the actual shifts.
  • 52 weeks is 364 days, so 2,080 hours is one or two working days short of most calendar years; enter 52.14 weeks, or use the Days Worked Per Year Calculator for exact days.
  • Days off are converted at your average hours per day. It doesn’t add overtime, decide which time off is paid, or calculate wages.
  • Up to 24 hours a day, 168 a week, 7 days a week, and 53 weeks.

Annual Work Hours Calculator FAQ

How many work hours are in a year?
For a 40-hour week, 40 × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. That is the usual full-time figure, but it counts every week of the year as worked — paid holidays and vacation are in it.
Why do some years have more than 2,080 work hours?
52 weeks is 364 days, so a calendar year has one or two days more. Counting the actual Monday-to-Friday days, 2026 has 261 weekdays, or 2,088 hours at 8 hours a day, and 2032 has 262, or 2,096 hours. Enter 52.14 weeks, or use the Days Worked Per Year Calculator for exact days.
What is the difference between paid hours and hours worked?
Paid time off and paid holidays are paid but not worked. 40 hours a week for 52 weeks with 15 days of paid vacation and 10 paid holidays is still 2,080 paid hours, but 1,880 hours actually worked. Unpaid days off come out of both.
How many hours a year is part time?
20 hours a week is 1,040 hours over 52 weeks, and 30 hours a week is 1,560. How many hours count as part time or full time is set by the employer or by the program asking, not by this calculator.
Does it include overtime or pay?
No. It multiplies the hours, days, and weeks you enter and subtracts the days off you enter. It doesn’t add overtime, decide which days are paid, or calculate wages.
Are the hours and dates I enter sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser as you type. Your hours, dates, and results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored, and the calculator area is masked from session-recording analytics. Refreshing the page clears it.
