Appliance Through Doorway Fit Calculator

Enter a refrigerator, washer, dryer, or other appliance’s size — with its handles, packaging, or dolly if they apply — and the doorway’s clear opening to see whether it gets through upright, and whether removing doors or handles would make the difference.

Check an appliance delivery before the truck arrives

Appliances are boxes, but rarely just the size on the spec sheet: handles stand proud of the doors, the box adds inches, and a dolly lifts the whole thing. Many also have to stay upright. This calculator checks a refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, range, freezer, or other appliance against the door’s clear opening, counting each of those only when you enter it. If the appliance doesn’t fit as it is, you can tell it you will remove the doors or handles following the manufacturer’s instructions and enter the depth without them — it shows the answer both ways and never assumes anything comes off. It is for anyone replacing an appliance, moving house, or planning a kitchen or laundry room.

How to use the Appliance Through Doorway Fit Calculator

  1. Choose your unit, the appliance, and whether it is still boxed.
  2. Measure the body’s width, depth (without handles), and height — or the box if it is still packaged — and how far the handles stick out.
  3. Choose whether it must stay upright (the default) or may be laid down, and enter the dolly’s height if it will be wheeled in.
  4. If it may not fit, choose to remove doors or handles only if the manual describes how, and enter the depth without them.
  5. Measure the doorway with the door open, then read the result, the tightest point, and each position checked.

How the check works

Depth as moved = body depth + handles (unless removed, or boxed)

Upright on a dolly: height as moved = height + dolly

For each allowed position: across ≤ door clear width and height ≤ door clear height

Examples use a 32 × 80 in doorway approached straight on, with the appliance kept upright. The fridge clears the door sideways with just 1 in to spare; its 3 in handles make it 34 in deep and too wide, and only taking the doors off (to 28 in) gets it through.

Calculated on your device

  • The check runs in your browser as you type; nothing is sent to a server.
  • Your measurements and results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored.
  • The calculator area, including the diagram, is masked from session-recording analytics, so what you enter isn’t captured in recordings.

Limitations

  • Doors, handles, feet, and panels are never assumed to come off. Remove them only as the manufacturer’s instructions describe, and enter the depth without them.
  • Upright is the default because many manuals ask for refrigerators and freezers to be moved that way; this calculator doesn’t know your model’s rules.
  • A straight approach assumes room in line with the door on both sides. Turning in from a hallway is checked with a corridor model that is tighter than a real room, so a failed turn asks for more measurements.
  • Water lines, vents, and cords need their own clearance at the final position, which this doesn’t check.
  • Sizes up to 100 ft (30.48 m) in inches, feet, centimeters, or meters.

Appliance Through Doorway Fit Calculator FAQ

Will my refrigerator fit through the door?
Measure its width, depth, and height, plus how far the handles stick out, and the door’s clear opening with the door open. A fridge 36 in wide and 31 in deep goes through a 32 in door sideways with 1 in to spare — but not with 3 in handles, which make it 34 in deep.
Should I take the refrigerator doors off?
Only if the manufacturer’s instructions explain how. The calculator never assumes parts come off: choose that option and enter the depth without them, and it shows the result both ways. That 34 in-deep fridge fits with its doors off if the body is 28 in deep.
Does the calculator lay the appliance down?
Not unless you say it may be laid down. Many refrigerator and freezer manuals ask for them to be moved upright, so upright is the default. Allowing it on its back or side adds those positions to the check.
Does a dolly change the clearance?
Yes, by raising the appliance. Enter how much the dolly lifts it and that is added to the height when upright. A 78 in-tall fridge clears an 80 in door on its own but not on a dolly that raises it 2.5 in.
What if it’s still in the box?
Choose the packaging option and enter the box’s size instead. A boxed washer 30 × 33 × 42 in fits a 32 × 80 in door. Handles inside the box don’t add anything — the box is what has to fit.
Are the measurements I enter sent anywhere?
No. The check runs in your browser as you type. Your measurements and results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored, and the calculator area is masked from session-recording analytics. Refreshing the page clears it.
