Clearing every doorway on its own doesn’t prove the route

A refrigerator can clear the front door, the hallway, and the kitchen doorway one at a time and still not get there — because it has to come through the front door one way and into the hallway another, and turning it between them takes space the route may not have.

This calculator checks the route as a whole. Each stage uses the same models as the doorway, stairwell, and elevator calculators. Then it looks for one continuous way of carrying the appliance through every stage and junction that ends upright, back first, at a spot it fits. When that can’t be shown, it says what to measure instead of guessing.

How to use the Appliance Delivery Path Clearance Calculator

  1. Choose a unit and the appliance, and enter its width, depth, and height; add handles, the box, a dolly, or padding if they apply.
  2. Choose whether it must stay upright or may be laid down — follow the manual.
  3. Enter each stage in the order it meets them: doorway, straight hallway, straight stair flight, or elevator.
  4. Between stages, say how the route continues: straight on, a 90° turn, or open floor (and measure it).
  5. Enter the installation spot’s width, depth, and height to confirm the end of the route.

How the calculation works

Each stage: the cross-section square in the passage (stairs add the bends at the foot and head; an elevator needs the depth to close its doors)

Straight on: the same carrying position continues

90° turn: pivot with the long side leading, or slip round with no turn

Open floor: spin it if √(length² + across²) fits, tip it if √(side² + side²) fits the floor and ceiling

Likely fits only when one chain of carrying positions links every stage and the spot

A 30 × 31 in footprint (handles included) spins on open floor at least √(30² + 31²) = 43.14 in each way.

  • Your measurements and results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored.

Limitations

  • The route is straight passages, square corners, straight stair flights, and elevators, with the appliance as a rigid box — not a 3D simulation.
  • A turn next to stairs or an elevator, and winding or L-shaped stairs, aren’t checked; measure the open floor there instead.
  • Door stops, trim, handrails, and light fittings count: measure at the narrowest point of each stage.
  • It never assumes doors or handles come off, or that the appliance may be laid down — follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • The installation spot is checked for the appliance’s size only; use the Appliance Alcove & Door-Swing Clearance Calculator for the clearances the manual asks for.

Appliance Delivery Path Clearance Calculator FAQ

Will my refrigerator fit through the delivery route?
Enter the appliance and each stage in order. A 30 × 29 × 68 in refrigerator with 2 in handles, kept upright, gets through a 34 in front door, turns into a 40 in hallway, and turns again through a 32 in kitchen doorway with 2 in to spare at the tightest point.
Why isn’t passing each doorway enough?
The appliance may have to be carried a different way in the next stage, and turning or tipping it needs space that may not be there. The calculator only says “Likely fits” when one continuous way of carrying it links every stage and junction and arrives upright at the spot.
What does “Additional measurements required” mean here?
Something on the route can’t be shown to work from what was entered — a junction marked “not sure”, a missing ceiling height, a turn next to stairs, or the installation spot not measured. The result lists exactly what to measure.
Can it check stairs and elevators?
Yes. Straight stair flights use the same model as the Stairwell Furniture Clearance Calculator, including the bends at the foot and head, and elevators use the Elevator Furniture Fit Calculator’s door, cabin, and depth checks.
Does it allow for handles, the box, or a dolly?
Yes, each when you enter it: handles add to the depth, the box replaces the appliance’s size on the route, a dolly adds to the height when it stands upright on a level floor, and padding is added to every side once.
Are the measurements I enter sent anywhere?
No. The check runs in your browser as you type. Your measurements and results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored, and the calculator area is masked from session-recording analytics. Refreshing the page clears it.
