How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. Choose or drag a PDF into the tool.
  2. Select the position where page numbers should appear.
  3. Choose a number format and starting number.
  4. Select all pages, skip the first page, or enter a custom range.
  5. Adjust the font size, text color, and page-edge margin.
  6. Preview the placement and download the numbered PDF.

Customize your PDF page numbers

  • Six placement options: top left, top center, top right, bottom left, bottom center, and bottom right.
  • Number styles: 1, 2, 3 · 01, 02, 03 · Page 1 · Page 1 of 10.
  • Custom starting number from 1 to 9999.
  • Number all pages, skip the first page, or use a custom page range such as 1-5, 8, 10-12.
  • Font size from 8 to 72 pt.
  • Custom text color.
  • Margin from 12 to 72 pt from the selected page edge.

Private browser-based processing

Page numbering runs locally in your browser. Your PDF is not uploaded to Looty Tools, stored on our servers, or sent to an external conversion service.

Limits and important notes

  • Maximum PDF size is 25 MB.
  • Maximum PDF length is 100 pages.
  • Password-protected and encrypted PDFs are not supported.
  • Page numbers may overlap existing headers, footers, or page content.
  • Saving a modified PDF may invalidate digital signatures.
  • PDF/A conformance may not be preserved.
  • Some advanced PDF features may not be fully preserved.
  • Processing large or complex PDFs may use more browser memory.

Are my PDF files uploaded?
No. The PDF is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to Looty Tools.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Select Skip first page to leave the first page unnumbered.
Can I add numbers to only certain pages?
Yes. Choose Custom range and enter pages such as 1-5, 8, 10-12.
Can I choose where the page number appears?
Yes. You can place numbers at the top or bottom and align them left, center, or right.
Can I start numbering at a number other than 1?
Yes. Enter any whole number from 1 to 9999.
Can I change the page-number color and size?
Yes. Font size, text color, and distance from the page edge are customizable.
Are password-protected PDFs supported?
No. Password-protected and encrypted PDFs are not supported.
Will digital signatures remain valid?
Usually not. Modifying and saving a signed PDF may invalidate its digital signature.
