What JFIF to JPG conversion does
JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) is a JPEG-based image format. A .jfif file already contains standard JPEG image data — this tool re-encodes it and saves it with the more widely recognized .jpg extension and an image/jpeg MIME type.
This is useful when software or an upload form only accepts .jpg or .jpeg files and rejects .jfif.
How to convert JFIF to JPG
- Choose a .jfif, .jfi, or .jif file.
- Optionally adjust JPEG quality.
- Select Convert & download.
- Save the .jpg file from your browser downloads.
JFIF is a JPEG format
JFIF is a container/interchange specification for JPEG image data, not a separate compression format. Converting JFIF to JPG does not add new image detail — it produces a standard JPG file containing the same picture.
Dimensions and quality
The output JPG keeps the same pixel dimensions as the source file. Because the source is already JPEG-encoded, re-encoding at a high quality setting keeps the result close to the original; lowering quality trades some additional detail for a smaller file.
Privacy and local processing
- Processing occurs locally in the browser.
- Files are not uploaded to Looty Tools for conversion.
- Converted images remain on your device.
Limits and known issues
- Inputs: JFIF (.jfif, .jfi, .jif) only, up to 25.0 MB and 8,192 px per side.
- The file must contain a valid JPEG image with a JFIF marker. Renamed or corrupted files are rejected before decoding.
- Decoding uses your browser's built-in image support.
- Metadata is not preserved in the downloaded JPG.

JFIF to JPG FAQ
- What is a JFIF file?
- JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) is a standard way of storing JPEG image data. A .jfif file is a JPEG image — this tool re-encodes it as a standard .jpg file so software that only recognizes the .jpg extension can open it.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Conversion runs locally in your browser using native browser image decoding. Your file is not uploaded to Looty Tools servers for this workflow.
- Will image quality change?
- The source is already JPEG-compressed, and this tool re-encodes it as JPEG again. The default quality is high (90%), and you can adjust the JPEG quality slider before converting to reduce further generation loss.
- What JFIF files are accepted?
- Files with a .jfif, .jfi, or .jif extension and a valid JPEG SOI marker plus a JFIF APP0 segment are accepted. Renamed or corrupted files are rejected before decoding.
- Are image dimensions preserved?
- Yes. The output JPG keeps the same pixel dimensions as the source JFIF file.
- What output do I get?
- A standard .jpg file with an image/jpeg MIME type, which is what most software expects instead of the less common .jfif extension.
