Work out a sale price
Walking through a 30%-off sale, comparing two offers, or checking a coupon before you pay: enter the original price and the discount, and the sale price and your savings appear as you type, rounded to the cent. The $ is only a label — the arithmetic is identical for any currency, and nothing is converted.
How to use the Discount Calculator
- Type the original price. A $ sign and thousands separators such as 1,299.99 are fine.
- Type the discount percentage, from 0 to 100.
- Read the sale price and the amount you save. Copy Result copies a line such as “$100.00 with 25% off: sale price $75.00, you save $25.00”.
The formula
savings = price × discount ÷ 100
sale price = price − savings
The savings is rounded to the nearest cent first, with half a cent rounding up, and the sale price is whatever remains. That way the two always add up to the original price, even when the exact savings has more than two decimal places — 15% of $19.99 is $2.9985, which becomes $3.00 off and a sale price of $16.99.

Limitations
- One percentage discount at a time. For stacked offers such as “an extra 10% off”, enter the first sale price as the new original price.
- It does not add sales tax or shipping, and it does not handle fixed-amount coupons such as $10 off.
- The $ is a display label; there is no currency choice or conversion.
- Prices from $0 to $1,000,000,000,000 and discounts from 0% to 100%. A discount over 100% would mean a negative price, so it isn’t accepted.

Discount Calculator FAQ
- How do I calculate a discount?
- Multiply the price by the discount and divide by 100 to get the savings, then subtract the savings from the price: 25% off $100 saves $25, so you pay $75.
- Does it work with other currencies?
- Yes. The $ is only a label — the arithmetic is the same for euros, pounds, yen, or any other currency. Nothing is converted.
- How are cents rounded?
- The savings is rounded to the nearest cent (half a cent rounds up) and the sale price is what’s left, so the two always add up to the original price. 15% off $19.99 saves $3.00 and costs $16.99.
- Is 20% off plus an extra 10% off the same as 30% off?
- No — it is 28% off in total, because the extra 10% comes off the already reduced price: $100 becomes $80, then $72. To apply a second discount, enter the first sale price as the new original price.
- Does the calculator include sales tax?
- No. It shows the price after the discount only. Tax rules and rates depend on where you are, so add any tax separately.
- Why can’t the discount be more than 100%?
- A 100% discount already makes the item free. Anything larger would mean a negative price, which isn’t a real sale price, so the box asks for a discount from 0% to 100%.
- Are the numbers I enter sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation runs in your browser as you type. The numbers you enter and the results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored; refreshing the page clears them.
