Why iPhones use HEIC

Compatibility and quality

JPG is lossy. Raising quality keeps more detail and usually increases file size. Transparent pixels, if present after decode, are flattened onto white because JPEG has no alpha channel.

Can I convert HEIF as well as HEIC?

Yes. This converter accepts .heic and .heif files. Files that are not valid HEIC/HEIF containers are rejected after content checks.

Are my photos uploaded?

Will photo quality change?

JPEG uses lossy compression. The default quality is high (90%), and you can adjust the JPEG quality slider. Some detail may still change compared with the original HEIC photo.

Is EXIF metadata preserved?

No. This tool does not claim to preserve EXIF or other metadata in the downloaded JPG. Modern browsers may apply EXIF orientation while decoding so the pixels look upright, but metadata is not copied into the output file.

Why can’t my browser decode the file?

HEIC decoding uses a browser library (heic2any). Some unusual HEIC variants or older browsers can fail. Try another modern browser or export a JPG from your Photos app if decoding fails.

Does it work on Windows and Android?

Yes, in a modern browser with JavaScript enabled. You do not need Apple Photos installed on Windows or Android for this browser-based converter.
