Fixing Scanned PDF Orientation Before Sharing
Scanned documents frequently come out of a scanner or phone camera app with one or more pages sideways or upside down — often because the original sheet was fed or photographed in a different orientation than the rest of the stack. Why scans end up in mixed orientations
Flatbed and sheet-fed scanners rotate a page based on how it was placed, not how the rest of the document is oriented. A double-sided page, a landscape chart mixed into a portrait report, or a phone photo taken at a different angle can all produce one or two pages that look wrong while the rest of the document is fine.
Because the problem is usually isolated to a handful of pages rather than the whole file, a global fix (rotating everything) is often the wrong tool — you need to target the specific pages that are actually wrong.
Fixing the affected pages
- Open the scanned PDF in Rotate PDF and let the page previews load.
- Scan visually through the thumbnails for pages that are sideways or upside down.
- Select just those pages with their checkboxes, then use a bulk rotate button — or fix each one individually with its own Rotate left / Rotate right buttons.
- Double-check the previews (they update instantly) before exporting.
- Select Rotate & download.
A note on 180° pages
A page that is fully upside down needs a 180° rotation, not two separate 90° clicks in the same direction by accident (two clicks in the wrong pattern will not always land back on 180° if you lose track). Use the dedicated 180° button — on a single page or as a bulk action — to apply it in one deliberate step.

- Only two pages in my scan are sideways — do I need to rotate the whole file?
- No. Select just the affected pages and use a bulk rotate button, or rotate each one individually — the rest of the document stays untouched.
- A page is completely upside down. What do I use?
- Use the 180° rotate button, either on that page directly or as a bulk action after selecting it.
- Can I preview the fix before downloading?
- Yes. Each page thumbnail updates immediately when you rotate it, so you can confirm every page looks right before you export.
- Are my scanned files uploaded?
- No. Rotation and page previews are generated locally in your browser.
- What if I rotate a page the wrong way?
- Use Reset rotation to set every page back to 0° without re-uploading, then rotate again — or use the opposite Rotate left / Rotate right button to undo a single click.
