Clean web addresses from any title

A slug is the readable part of a web address that names a page, like /learn-piano-chords. Blogs, online shops, documentation sites, and content management systems all need one for each page, and hand-typing them leads to capital letters, stray punctuation, and doubled hyphens. Enter a title and get a lowercase slug with accents simplified and punctuation removed — or paste a list of titles and get one slug per line.

How to create a URL slug

1. Type or paste a title — or several, one per line.
2. The slugs appear below as you type, each on the same line as its title.
3. Choose hyphens or underscores, and turn on “ASCII only” if your platform needs plain a–z and 0–9, then choose Copy Result.

How titles become slugs

• Letters are lowercased and Latin accents are removed: Café becomes cafe, Straße becomes strasse.
• Apostrophes are dropped (don’t → dont) and a spaced “&” becomes “and”.
• Spaces, punctuation, underscores, hyphens, and emoji become a single separator, never at the start or end.
• Numbers are kept, and letters from other scripts are kept unless “ASCII only” is on.

Your text stays on your device

• Slugs are created by JavaScript running in your browser.
• Your titles are never uploaded to Looty Tools or any other server.
• Nothing is stored — refreshing or closing the page clears both boxes.
• Uploaded documents are opened and read in your browser; the file itself is never sent to Looty Tools.

Limitations

• Uploads accept .txt and .md files up to 5 MB, Word .docx files up to 15 MB, and PDFs up to 25 MB and 50 pages. Older .doc files are not supported, and scanned or image-only PDFs have no text to use.
• Words are not shortened or removed; very long titles make long slugs, so trim filler words yourself if you want a shorter address.
• Only Latin letters have their accents removed. Other scripts are kept as they are or removed entirely with “ASCII only” — they are not transliterated into Latin letters.
• The generator does not check whether a slug is already used on your site.

What does the generator change?

It lowercases the title, removes accents from Latin letters (Café → cafe), drops apostrophes (don’t → dont), turns “ & ” into “and”, and replaces spaces, punctuation, underscores, and emoji with a single hyphen, with none at the start or end.

What happens to titles in other languages?

Letters from other scripts are kept, so “Привет мир” becomes привет-мир and 東京タワー stays 東京タワー. Browsers and most website platforms support these. Turn on “ASCII only” if your system needs plain a–z and 0–9.

Should I use hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens are the usual choice for web addresses, and search engines treat them as word separators. Underscores are available for systems that require them, such as some file names or identifiers.

Can I make slugs for many titles at once?

Yes. Put one title per line; each line becomes its own slug on the matching line, and blank lines stay blank.

Why is a slug empty?

The line had nothing usable — only punctuation, symbols, or emoji — or “ASCII only” removed letters from another script. A note under the counts tells you when this happens.

Are numbers kept?

Yes. Numbers stay as they are, so “Top 10 Tips (2026)” becomes top-10-tips-2026.

Can I upload a Word document or PDF instead of pasting?

Yes. Upload Document accepts .txt, .md, Word .docx, and text-based .pdf files, or you can drop a file onto the text box. The file is read in your browser — it is not sent to Looty Tools — and its text replaces whatever is in the box. Scanned PDFs without a text layer and older .doc files are not supported.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Slugs are created in your browser; your titles are never sent to Looty Tools or saved.
