Why use this conversion
ICO is what Windows expects for application icons, desktop shortcuts, and favicons. Turning the first page of a scanned or archival TIFF into an icon set is a somewhat unusual pairing, but a real one — for example, using a document's cover page as a recognizable thumbnail-style icon.
Transparency and output quality
Each embedded size keeps the alpha channel from the source TIFF page, if it has one (TIFF can carry alpha via its ExtraSamples tag) — this is a real ICO container (ICONDIR plus one entry per size), with each size embedded as genuine PNG-compressed image data, not a renamed bitmap. Each icon entry uses PNG compression, so a single-size ICO built from one TIFF page stays small; the multi-size package is larger since it bundles six images.

Limits and known issues
- Input: TIFF (.tif, .tiff) only, up to 25.0 MB and 8,192 px per side.
- Each icon size is generated by resizing the full image to a square canvas, so a non-square TIFF page — common for scanned documents — will be stretched to fit.
- When the source TIFF has multiple pages, the icon set is built from page one alone — any further pages are dropped before the ICO is generated.
- Metadata is not preserved in the downloaded file.
