Count the days between two dates
Days until a deadline, the length of a trip, how long ago something happened: enter two dates to get the number of days between them, and the same total in weeks and days. By default the count is the gap between the dates; turn on “Include end date” when both days should count. For a breakdown in years, months, and days, use the Date Difference Calculator.
How to use the Days Between Dates Calculator
- Choose the start date and the end date, in either order.
- Turn on “Include end date (count both days)” if the last day is part of the period.
- Read the number of days and the weeks and days. Copy Result copies a one-line summary.
The method
days = end date − start date
with “Include end date”: days = end date − start date + 1
Subtracting dates counts the steps from one day to the next, so January 1 to January 2 is 1 day — the same answer a spreadsheet gives. When both the first and the last day belong to the period, such as a 3-day event from the 1st to the 3rd, turn on “Include end date” to add that final day. Each date is a whole calendar day, so leap days are counted and a daylight-saving change can’t add or lose a day.

Limitations
- It counts every calendar day — there is no weekdays-only or business-day count, and holidays aren’t skipped.

Days Between Dates Calculator FAQ
- Does the count include both dates?
- Not by default. January 1 to January 2 counts as 1 day, the same as subtracting one date from the other in a spreadsheet. Turn on “Include end date” to count both days, which makes it 2.
- When should I include the end date?
- When both the first and last day are part of the period — an event running from the 1st to the 3rd covers 3 days. Leave it off to count the gap between dates, such as nights in a hotel or days until a deadline.
- Does it count only weekdays or business days?
- No. It counts every calendar day, including weekends and public holidays.
- What if the end date is before the start date?
- You get the same number of days as with the dates the other way round, plus a note that the end date is earlier.
- Are leap years included?
- Yes. February 29 is counted whenever it falls between the dates, so February 1 to March 1 is 29 days in 2024 and 28 days in 2026.
- Why does another tool give me one day more?
- It is probably counting both the start and end dates. Turn on “Include end date” to match it.
- Are the dates and times I enter sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation runs in your browser as you type. The dates and times you enter and the results are not sent to Looty Tools or stored, and the calculator area is masked from session-recording analytics. Refreshing the page clears it.
