How to Convert PDF to Excel Online
Copying numbers and rows out of a PDF by hand is slow and error-prone. The Looty Tools PDF to Excel converter reads the positioned text on each page, detects table-shaped regions, and rebuilds them as a real, editable .xlsx workbook — entirely in your browser. This guide covers supported formats, the conversion steps, and what to expect from the output.

Why convert PDF to Excel
A PDF is meant to be read, not recalculated — its "table" is really just text positioned to look like rows and columns. Converting to Excel turns that visual layout back into real cells you can sort, filter, sum, and edit.
Supported input
The tool works on text-based PDFs — the kind produced by exporting a spreadsheet, report, or invoice, where the words and numbers are real, extractable text rather than a picture of a page. Scanned or image-only PDFs are detected and handled separately; see /guides/pdf-to-excel-scanned-pdf-limitations.
- Supported: text-based PDFs, up to 25 MB and 50 pages.
- Not supported: scanned or image-only PDFs (no OCR).
How to convert PDF to Excel on Looty Tools
Each detected table is placed on its own sheet (Table 1, Table 2, and so on), and pages with text but no detected table still produce a sheet with the extracted text, so the output is never silently empty.
- Open the PDF to Excel tool at /tools/pdf-to-excel.
- Choose or drop a PDF file.
- Select Convert to Excel.
- Download the resulting .xlsx workbook.
Privacy
Conversion runs locally in your browser. Your PDF is not uploaded to Looty Tools.
How to Convert PDF to Excel FAQ
- What kinds of PDFs work best?
- PDFs with real, extractable text and a clear grid-like table structure — for example an exported report, invoice, or data sheet — convert most reliably.
- Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
- No. Conversion runs locally in the browser. Your PDF is not uploaded to Looty Tools.
- How are numbers and dates handled?
- Unambiguous numbers, currency amounts, and dates are converted to real numeric or date cells. Values that could be misread if converted — like percentages or ZIP codes — are kept as text instead. See /guides/pdf-to-excel-table-detection-explained.
- What if my PDF has multiple tables or pages?
- Each detected table gets its own sheet. A table that continues across a page break is merged into one sheet only when the columns clearly line up between pages.
- What is the maximum PDF size?
- The maximum file size is 25 MB, with up to 50 pages.
- Does this work on scanned PDFs?
- Not for the scanned pages. A fully scanned PDF is rejected with a clear message; a PDF with only some scanned pages still converts what it can. This tool does not perform OCR.
