Test the extremes, not just the average
- Try the shortest realistic text — a one-word title, an empty description — to see how the layout copes with gaps.
- Try the longest realistic text to see where lines wrap, cards grow uneven, or text overflows.
- Check narrow screens: a headline that fits on a desktop may wrap to four lines on a phone.
Match the real language
If the finished site will be translated, remember that some languages run noticeably longer than English. Leave room, or test with sample text in those languages, because Latin placeholder text will not reveal those overflows.
Use real limits where they exist
When a field has a character limit — a product title, a meta description, a social post — generate placeholder text close to that limit rather than a round number of paragraphs. It shows exactly how the element looks when full.
