HEIC and HEIF
HEIC/HEIF is common on iPhones and can store high-quality photos efficiently. Compatibility outside Apple ecosystems is still uneven, which is why many people convert before sharing or uploading.
JPEG
JPEG is widely supported and usually smaller for photographs. It uses lossy compression and does not support transparency. Re-encoding an already compressed JPEG can add more artifacts.
PNG
PNG is lossless for decoded pixel data and can keep transparency when the source has an alpha channel. PNG files are often larger than JPEG for photos, but they are useful for UI graphics and screenshots that need sharp edges.
What Image Converter outputs
Image Converter can export JPEG or PNG from supported inputs. Pick JPEG for everyday photo sharing and PNG when you need lossless quality or transparency.
HEIC vs JPEG vs PNG FAQ
- Which format should I choose?
- Choose JPEG for smaller photos and broad compatibility. Choose PNG for lossless quality or transparency.
- Is HEIC always smaller than JPEG?
- Often, but not always. Encoding settings and content matter. Convert when the destination requires JPEG or PNG.
- Does PNG reduce quality?
- PNG is lossless for the decoded pixels. It does not use JPEG-style lossy compression.
- Can Image Converter keep HEIC as HEIC?
- No. The tool converts supported inputs to JPEG or PNG downloads.
