Compare PDF

Compare two PDF versions side by side and spot what changed.

Checking tool availability…

Compare PDF processes files locally in your browser.

Compare two PDF versions

Upload an original PDF and a revised PDF to see which pages changed, which were added or removed, and — on pages where the text itself changed — exactly which lines were added or removed.

Your PDF files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to Looty Tools.

How to compare two PDFs

  1. Upload the Original PDF and the Revised PDF.
  2. Select Compare.
  3. Browse pages using the numbered strip, or jump between changes with Next change / Previous change.
  4. Open the "What changed" panel on any Changed page to see the specific added and removed lines.

Real change detection, not just a side-by-side view

  • Pages are matched by content, so an inserted or deleted page does not misclassify the rest of the document.
  • Each matched page pair is checked for both text differences and visual differences.
  • A page with identical text but a changed image, chart, or signature is still flagged as Changed.
  • Scanned or image-only PDFs fall back to a visual-only comparison automatically.
  • Browser-only processing — files stay on your device.

Private browser-based comparison

Comparing happens locally on your device. Your documents are not uploaded to Looty Tools, stored on our servers, or sent to an external service.

Limits and important notes

  • Maximum of 30 pages per PDF.
  • Maximum size per PDF is 25 MB.
  • Both files must be PDFs.
  • Text changes are shown as added/removed lines, not a character-level inline highlight.
  • Scanned/image-only pages are compared visually only — no line-by-line text diff is possible for them.
  • A full pixel-level visual overlay highlight is not included in this version.

Compare PDF FAQ

Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Comparing runs locally in your browser.
How does Compare PDF detect changes?
Pages are matched up by their content, not just their position, then each matched pair is checked for both text changes and visual changes. A page with different text is flagged Changed; a page with identical text but a different image, chart, or graphic is also flagged Changed.
Can I see exactly what text changed on a page?
Yes. For a Changed page where the text itself differs, the "What changed" panel lists the specific added and removed lines.
What happens if a page was inserted or deleted?
The tool detects the shift and marks the specific page as Page added or Page removed, without incorrectly marking every following page as changed.
Does Compare PDF work on scanned PDFs?
Yes, using a visual comparison. Scanned or image-only pages have no extractable text, so they are compared by their rendered appearance instead, without a line-by-line text diff.
How many pages can I compare?
Up to 30 pages per PDF, with each file up to 25 MB.
Does this highlight exactly where on the page something changed?
Not yet. Compare PDF tells you which pages changed and, for text pages, which lines changed — a pixel-level visual overlay highlight is not included in this version.
Can I compare a PDF with a Word document or image?
No. Both the original and revised files must be PDFs.
