PDF to PNG vs PDF to JPG: Which Should You Use?

When JPG is the better choice

- You are sharing many pages and want to keep the total download size manageable.
They share the same rendering engine
Both tools render pages at the same selectable resolutions (1×, 1.5×, 2×) using the same underlying PDF renderer — the only real difference is the output encoding (lossless PNG vs. adjustable-quality JPG) and, on the JPG tool, the quality slider itself.

- Which format has better quality?
- PNG is lossless, so it always preserves full quality at a given resolution. JPG quality depends on the quality setting you choose — higher settings approach PNG quality at a larger file size.
- Which format produces smaller files?
- JPG, especially at lower quality settings. PNG files are typically larger, particularly for photo-heavy pages.
- Can I switch between them without re-uploading my PDF?
- They are separate tools, so you would choose your PDF again on whichever tool you use — but both run entirely in your browser, so there is no real "upload" either way.
