How to Convert JPG to WebP in Your Browser

Many websites prefer WebP for delivery. This guide shows how to convert JPG or JPEG to WebP locally in your browser with Looty Tools.

Ready to try the tool this guide describes?

Steps

  1. Open /tools/jpg-to-webp.
  2. Choose a .jpg or .jpeg file within the 25 MB and 8,192 px limits.
  3. Adjust WebP quality if needed (default 90%).
  4. Select Convert & download and save the .webp.

Browser WebP encoding is required

The tool checks canvas WebP encoding support before creating a download. If encoding is unavailable, you see a clear compatibility error. It never saves a PNG or JPEG mislabeled as WebP.

Quality versus restored detail

Raising WebP quality keeps more of the decoded pixels, but it cannot restore detail JPEG already discarded. Dimensions stay the same.
