How to Export One Excel Worksheet to CSV
A CSV file is a single flat table. Multi-sheet Excel workbooks therefore need a deliberate sheet choice before export. This guide explains how Looty Tools lists visible worksheets, defaults the first one, and exports only the sheet you select.

Why CSV is one sheet only
Unlike XLSX, CSV has no concept of multiple worksheets, tab colors, or workbook metadata. If you need every sheet, export each one separately or keep an Excel or PDF workflow.
Looty Tools Excel to CSV requires exactly one visible worksheet per download so the output stays a valid single-table CSV.
Visible sheets and workbook order
Only visible worksheets appear in the selector. Hidden sheets are excluded. The list preserves the workbook’s original sheet order, and the first visible sheet is selected by default.
- Hidden worksheets are omitted.
- Order matches the workbook.
- Default selection: first visible sheet.
Preview before you export
Changing the selected sheet updates the preview without reparsing the whole workbook. Option changes (delimiter, BOM, blank rows) also reuse the already-loaded workbook.
- Open /tools/excel-to-csv and choose your workbook.
- Pick the worksheet you need from the radio list.
- Confirm the preview shows the expected first rows and columns.
- Convert to CSV and check the download filename includes the sheet name when safe.
What stays behind when you leave Excel
Merged-cell values typically appear in the top-left cell of the merge; other cells in the merge may be blank in CSV. Charts, images, formatting, and macros are not included. Formula expressions are not written—only cached values when present.

- Which sheet is selected by default?
- The first visible worksheet in workbook order.
- Does the download filename include the sheet name?
